Rental Cars
Grand Cayman has many top-brand car rental companies, as well as a few very good local ones. Rates are higher in winter (from mid-December) but lower in the summer (from mid-April) and are comparable to those in the US. Vehicle options include everything from compacts to SUVs and convertibles.

Taxis
While Cayman might not yet have ‘Uber’, we do have an abundance of taxis that are readily available and also a competent system of public omni-buses that run island wide daily.
You will find plenty of taxis at the airport, in front of the cruise ship terminals in George Town and parked at many of the major resorts along Seven Mile Beach.
Fees are regulated by the government and each driver has the official government rate sheet available if needed when discussing fares. Reliable taxi firms include:
• Ace Taxi: Tel: (345) 943 7777
• Charlie’s Taxi: Tel: (345) 949 4748
• Holiday Taxi: Tel: (345) 947 1066

Public Buses
We have a reasonably good public bus system. There are nine bus routes and the buses each have a distinctive coloured circle on the front and rear with a route number in the middle and Public Bus written along the side.
All routes run to and from the bus depot in central George Town, where there is a Public Transport Inspector on duty from 7am-7pm Monday-Friday (except for public holidays) and 8.30am-5pm on Saturdays to supervise all bus operations. There are a few designated bus stops on the Island, but the best way to catch a bus is to simply wave one down from the side of the road. Most buses carry between 14-29 passengers, so if it is full it won’t stop. The usual fare is CI$2 per journey or CI$3.50 if you take a long trip like George Town to East End or North Side. Anywhere beyond Hutland Road, such as Rum Point and Cayman Kai, will cost CI$8. If you hear a bus beeping as you walk along the road, it is the driver checking to see if you need to be picked up. Depending on buses for your main source of transportation will depend on where you live.
The best routes for buses are between George Town and either West Bay, Bodden Town, North Side or East End. But there are also regular scheduled buses which run along South Church Street, South Sound Road, Walkers Road and Fairbanks Road. Though if you live on the periphery of George Town, you may have to find an alternative source of transportation or be prepared to walk.
We have also been reliably informed that buses will go to Bodden Town and Frank Sound (from GT) on a regular basis but will often turn around and drive back to town rather than complete their route around North Side and East End, especially if their bus is empty. This means that if you are relying on catching a bus in North Side and East End to take you to George Town, particularly in the afternoon, then you might not be in luck!
